At Puppy to Dog School, we've developed a comprehensive four-session program that teaches both you and your dog the foundations of scent detection. Whether you have a high-energy working breed or a relaxed family companion, nosework engages their brain and builds confidence through rewarding challenges.

Each session builds progressively on skills learned, starting with basic scent recognition and advancing to complex search challenges. We use proven techniques adapted from professional sniffer dog protocols, modified for companion dogs and everyday environments.
We introduce your dog to target odours and begin building the association between finding scents and receiving rewards. You'll learn how to read subtle changes in your dog's behaviour that indicate they've detected something interesting.
Your dog learns to actively search for hidden scents in containers and simple environments. We introduce duration and distance to searches while maintaining enthusiasm and drive.
We progress to more complex environments, teaching your dog to discriminate between target odours and everyday distractions. This session often reveals remarkable concentration abilities you might not know your dog possessed.
Building on previous sessions, we work on scent discrimination in varied settings. Many owners are amazed to witness their dog's transformation into a confident scent detective by this stage.
Mental Enrichment Just 15 minutes of focused scent work can tire a dog more effectively than an hour-long walk. The concentration required engages their brain fully, helping prevent destructive behaviours caused by boredom.
